Almost nine centuries ago, in a small town north of Brussels, a group of Norbertine monks laid the first stone of what would become Grimbergen Abbey. However, this is not an abbey like the others. It has been ravaged by fire not once, not twice, but three times since 1128.

Still, no matter how tough the challenge, the friars always kept the flame alive and found a way to rebuild their abbey. And again. Stone by stone. And he rose from the ashes, as in the legend of the Grimbergen phoenix.

Resurgida de las cenizas

During the religious wars, the abbey was devastated by fire for the second time in just a couple of centuries. After that moment, the monks and the community decided to adopt the phoenix as their iconic emblem.

Una pasión encendida

The symbolic meaning of the Grimbergen phoenix is the relentless will to brew delicious beers and overcome challenges. Hence, it not only embodies the bravery of the friars, but also a firm belief in a favorable future for Grimbergen beer.

Because, even when everything had been destroyed, their fiery passion was never extinguished. Today, you can enjoy that unique strength of character in every sip of a Grimbergen beer, whether you opt for a full-bodied and balanced Blonde, a crisp Blanche or a rich, malty Double Ambrée.
