Father Karel is the first father to combine formal brewing training with generations of the monastery's beer-brewing knowledge.
He combines centuries of abbey brewing heritage with brewmaster Marc-Antoine Sochon's modern techniques with the
aim of reviving brewing at Grimbergen Abbey, thus taking up the legacy of generations of monks before him.
In order to once again create a truly heavenly brewing for several generations to come, the monastery brewery was also blessed by the monks, with Abbot Eric de Sutter presiding over the blessing.
Brewed with enthusiasm since 1128, Grimbergen represents a wide range of award-winning luxurious and sensual Belgian beers. Known as the Phoenix Bird beer - a symbol inspired by and indicating that Grimbergen has survived three devastating fires - Grimbergen's beer range is the result of nine centuries of proven brewing techniques and the experimenter.
Grimbergen's delicious taste is deep and characterful, fruity and spicy, all the way across the range - from the aromatic blonde to malty double beers and the refreshing blanche.
