Consumitur. It is the motto of the Abbey and holds the meaning "Burned, but not destroyed"
(different translations can occur).
The motto references the fact that the Grimbergen Abbey has been burnt to the ground three
times, but rebuilt every time by the Fathers and the community. A testament to the resilient
spirit of the Fathers of Grimbergen.
